Touring alongside Counting Crows on their “A Brief History of Everything Tour”, it’s all about giving the fans what they wanted, and it would seem that they delivered.

Richter Entertainment Group’s Summer Concert Season at Ironstone Amphitheatre in Murphys is now half way through it’s season this summer. Artists have included Toby Keith, Boston, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, John Mellencamp, The Moody Blues, Jason Mraz, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, with a number of artists still to come such as Steve Miller Band, Peter Frampton, Willie Nelson, Kenny G, and George Benson.
Richter Entertainment Group assembles an eclectic mix of musical artists, styles and genres every year, all benefiting from the state-of-the-art concert facility with top quality sound and lighting to placed each artist in the spotlight to showcase their music.
The amphitheatre features traditional assigned seating in the section directly in front of the stage, with a vast area behind that is designated general admission and allows patrons to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets with an opportunity to find the best spot from which to enjoy the show.
The greater setting of Ironstone Vineyards is stunning a beautiful – one of the rare concert venues where you can show up hours early and just take in the scenery, do some wine tasting, as well as have a stellar meal.

This was definitely one of the biggest crowds I’ve ever seen turn up for an event.

The first band to perform for the night was Rivers & Rust, which is comprised of singer Sheila Marshall and guitarist/vocalist Kyle Cook (of Matchbox Twenty). They are currently working on their first album. They put out a self titled EP in 2015.
Their music is definitely a departure from the sound of Matchbox Twenty, and a bit more of a bluesy and soul style of rock and roll.
This was actually my favorite set of the night – they were really awesome. You can check out their latest single on their official website.

Counting Crows
“…very personal, very moving for me song, and I thought who the fuck cares, it smells like popcorn! I dunno… That is some seductively delicious smelling shit, I have to say…” Adam Duritz interrupting his own introduction to a song with an aside about popcorn. That kind of paints an image of the tone of the set put on by Counting Crows.
The genesis of Counting Crows is with Singer Adam Duritz and guitarist David Bryson performing as an acoustic duo in San Francisco coffeehouses. The band formed in 1991 in Berkeley, California. The Academy Award nominated rock group found early success with their debut album, August and Everything After, in 1993.
The band have released seven studio albums to date, most recently Somewhere Under Wonderland in 2014.

It was obvious that much of the crowd turned out for Counting Crows specifically, since it was a double headliner show, and the band did not disappoint, putting on a full set.
They had great energy and Adam had people laughing in-between songs, especially with his running commentary about popcorn.

Matchbox Twenty was formed in Orlando in 1995 by Rob Thomas, Brian Yale, and Paul Doucette (who were previously in the band Tabitha’s Secret) after bringing Adam Gaynor and Kyle Cook on board.
The band released their debut album, Yourself of Someone Like You, in 1996, selling 12 million copies in the U.S. alone. The found immediate success with songs like “Long Day”, 3 A.M.”, “Push”, “Back 2 Good”, and “Real World”.
All in all, the band released four studio albums, with 2012’s North being the most recent.
Amidst their ongoing success over the years, the band has taken a hiatus a few times and Rob Thomas has cultivated quite a solo career as well.
This year, the band announced that Rob Thomas, Paul Doucette, Brian Yale, and Kyle Cook would reunite for this “A Brief History of Everything Tour 2017”.
I was honestly not familiar with the work of either Counting Crows of Matchbox Twenty prior to the show, but I was impressed with their energy and impressive performances.
